Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Air-Cooled Classic Volkswagen Mechanic & Restoration Specialist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is a true air-cooled enthusiast—someone with deep hands-on experience, strong diagnostic ability, and an appreciation for authenticity and precision.
This role involves comprehensive mechanical work, electrical troubleshooting, restoration tasks, and occasional collaboration with our fabrication and paint departments. You will play a critical role in restoring vintage Volkswagens to factory standards or better.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & Diagnostic Work
• Diagnose, repair, and rebuild air-cooled VW engines, transmissions, carburetors, brakes, and suspension systems.
• Perform engine tuning, valve adjustments, carburetor synchronization, and timing corrections.
Restoration & Assembly
• Conduct full or partial vehicle restorations—including teardown, mechanical assembly, and fine-detail finishing.
• Source, identify, and install period-correct components with accuracy.
Electrical Systems
• Troubleshoot and repair classic VW wiring systems, ignition components, switches, relays, and lighting circuits.
• Install updated or restored harnesses while maintaining vintage integrity.
Body & Fabrication Support
• Assist with alignment, fitment, sealing surfaces, and mechanical prep prior to paint and final assembly.
Maintenance & Quality Control
• Perform routine service work and ensure each vehicle leaves the shop safe, reliable, and true to its heritage.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the workshop.
Client Collaboration
• Communicate professionally and clearly with customers regarding their restoration vision, mechanical concerns, and project progress.
Qualifications
• Proven hands-on experience working on air-cooled Volkswagen vehicles (Beetle, Bus, Ghia, Type 3, etc.).
• Strong understanding of classic VW mechanical, electrical, and fuel systems (including carburetors).
• Experience with classic car restoration, including teardown, assembly, fabrication support, or paint prep.
• Ability to source, identify, and install vintage and period-correct parts.
• Meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-centered mindset.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Genuine passion for vintage Volkswagens and classic automobiles.
